Well the weather has turned miserable, despite today being very pleasant, so I think it´s safe to assume the winter is here. And so are the cranes.
A few hundred flew over the reservoir today and looked to be heading west to Extremadura. One bunch went around in circles a few times until 3 got sick of it and headed off in the right direction with the others then following. It looked like they were getting their bearings.
The sound they make is marvellous. You can hear them for quite a distance honking (if that´s what it is) as they fly. There were quite a few in the Valle de Alcudia as we went south for the long weekend and more in Doñana. It´s great to see one of the big migrations in action.
